The simple mind sees and accepts ideas and thoughts in black and white. It takes maturity, humility, and initiative to surrender oneself to seeing in gray. Every aspect, every idea, every perspective is as complex as the molecules which provide the vessel from which they originate.
Lately, Iapos;ve taken it upon myself to see the shades which separate the black from the white, and it has not been easy. There are so many preconceived notions that have accumulated in my head throughout my 31 years of life -ideas which were either or. I have challenged my mind by studying the different philosophical and social apos;idealsapos; of others -finding different answers to the same questions. I must humbly admit that it troubles me when I think that I am just now fully grasping the importance of such an act, and that, because of this, the lack of my own comprehension has been realized to be lacking. And yet, as embarrassing it is to admit my own ignorance, I know that this is the journey I must take at this point in my life.
One question that was brought up today after reading Ayn Randapos;s apos;Atlas Shruggedapos; is why money is often considered the root of all evil. For if we look at money as an exchange of individual efforts, doesnapos;t money only apos;becomeapos; evil when we donapos;t deserve or contribute in fair exchange? When we think of money as being apos;evilapos; are we really looking at its root? Does the statement, the guilt, ring true when we know deep down that we didnapos;t give an equal amount of effort for what we received -when we get more than we give of ourselves?
